Kauai, 'The Garden Isle as it is known, is a perfect picture postcard for a tropical escape, with its sandy beaches, cascading waterfalls, and tropical rainforests. kauai's Splendour bewitches all who visit this delightful island.
Kauai enchants the senses like no other place, and the island is famed for the diversity and sheer scale of its scenic wonders….the “Island of Discovery” begs to be discovered. Plunging ravines and cascading waterfalls. Unforgettable cliffs, canyons, beaches, and bays…..all of these are here in abundance. Any visitor’s wish-list is likely to include the vast chasm of Waimea Canyon, over 3,500 ft from top to bottom, almost one mile wide, and stretching 14 miles along the western end of Kauai – it’s often called the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, and simply shouldn’t be missed.
The oldest and northernmost of the Hawaiian chain, Kauai was discovered and claimed for Britain in 1778 by Captain Cook; although there are stunning hotels and other concessions to the 21st century, in other ways Kauai has remained timeless. Neon and late nights aren’t a priority here, but you probably won’t miss them - the timeless beauty and allure of Kauai is what makes it such a treasured destination. No structure can be built over four stories high, approximately the height of a mature palm tree, groves of which can be found on the east coast fronted by seemingly endless stretches of sand – hence its nickname, the “Coconut Coast”. Kauai has 43 white sand beaches, more beaches per mile of coastline than the other islands, and boasts the only navigable rivers in Hawaii.
Testament to Kauai’s dramatic beauty is that no less than 60 major motion pictures have been filmed here, notably Raider’s of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park. Much of the latter was filmed along the magnificent Napili Coast, sheer mountain cliffs that rise from the ocean floor, dotted with hidden coves of white sand. Most of Napili is inaccessible by road, so a helicopter ride is the best way to explore. Or take a boat trip, for a beach picnic and a day to remember – even if you’ve just a little of the Robinson Crusoe spirit in your soul, it’s worth every minute of your time.
